I-405 Closures Schedule: 'RampJam' Starts Thursday Night

And let the traffic games begin. A 90-day closure is in store for the 405 Freeway Wilshire Boulevard on- and off-ramps beginning Thursday night.

"Ramp Jam," "The Rampture," call it what you will. The fact is that the reconfiguring the Wilshire Boulevard ramps in the I-405 Sepulveda Pass Improvements Project will have a significant impact on Westside traffic and most possibly further away for the next three months or so.

Adding to the traffic woes of Brentwood residents, the Veterans Administration has stated that it will , a usual shortcut for Brentwoodians who want to get around Wilshire Boulevard traffic.

, announcing several measures to help emergency crews operate efficiently during times of dense traffic.

Closures:

On Thursday night at 10 p.m., the 405 Freeway Wilshire Boulevard westbound/northbound on- and off-ramps will be closed for demolition and reconstruction, according to Metro officials.

That means that if you're traveling west on Wilshire Boulevard and want to get onto the 405 heading north, think again. Heading north on the 405, you also won't be able to exit on Wilshire and travel west.

On Friday at 10 p.m., the Wilshire ramps will be closed again and will remain so for the next 90 days, according to Metro.

The demolition portion of the project will take three days, during which time street closures will be in effect:

  • Two lanes closed in both directions of Wilshire Boulevard between Veteran and Federal avenues; 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Hi...thanks for the information. Does this mean closures for these areas 24 hours a day or just the times listed above?
Sara Fay June 21, 2012 at 12:58 pm
Hi Kelli -- tonight, the ramps are closed just from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. tomorrow morning. Starting tomorrow (Friday) night at 10 p.m., though, the first two ramps will be closed 24 hours a day for the next 90 days. We'll be following the construction progress and future closures, so continue to check Patch for the latest. Hope this helps!

Thank you for this report. It's funny (but a very good thing) that this construction is getting so much attention because that entire area, especially around the Sunset and Wilshire exits have been a disaster area for well over a year. With random lane and exit closures, extremely poor or nonexistent signage and no reprogramming of the traffic signals, this entire project has been an ongoing disaster for any driver. The name of the game should be to simply AVOID the entire area until all the construction is complete. Those of us that live in the area just have to suffer.

Szlachta, It is a pain in the neck (or bum, depending on how long you have to sit in traffic), but hopefully it will be worth it in the end.

Love the "Related Topics: Carmageddon, OctoJam, Ramp Jam, Rampjam, and The Rampture" Very punny... sounds like the title for a rap song.

I know, Cary! It's like we have to find the humour in the insanity of it all.
