Blog | April is Earth Month: Remember Earth Day Everyday, Recycle Your Foam Curbside

Earth Day (4/22) inspires awareness and appreciation for the Earth's natural environment and resources. Brentwood needs to remember Earth Day everyday and recycle their foam curbside.

Tips To Help Brentwood Residents Recycle Their Foam Curbside

Earth Day (April 22) inspires awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s natural environment and resources. It is also a day that reminds us that we should continue to look for ways to improve our impact on the environment year round. And, Brentwood makes recycling easy by offering curbside pickup.

Recycling your foam (mistakenly referred to as Styrofoam) not only helps the environment but it also helps turn it into new products. Recycling your foam allows for California manufactures to turn the material into beautiful picture frames, crown molding, baseboards, nursery packaging, and pens.

So make a commitment to yourself and your community this Earth Day and Earth Month and recycle your electronic packaging and foodservice foam such as take-out containers and cups. Every environmentally conscious task we complete helps us remember that Earth Day really is every day. Some residents may not know that they can recycle foam curbside and help turn it into new products. The recycled foam is then used by companies to manufacture new products such as crown molding and picture frames.

To best recycle foam, here are some tips for you to follow:

#1: Make sure what you are recycling is recyclable. You don’t want to put something in your recycling bin that isn’t recyclable. To figure out if it is recyclable look for the triangle on the bottom of the material. If there is a 6 inside of the triangle, then you can recycle it. Foam comes in a variety of shapes and sizes, including food containers, foam coffee cups, packaging material, and egg cartons.

#2: Rinse your foam before recycling. Before you recycle your foam container, make sure that it is free of food by rinsing it before you put it in the recycling bin.

#3: Don’t forget to put your foam where it belongs. Be sure to place your foam in your blue curbside recycling container so that it is able to get a second chance at life.

#4: Spread the word! Tell your neighbors and community members that they are able to recycle their foam. They may not be aware that they are able to recycle foam in their curbside containers. Help spread the word.

#5: Remember Earth Day everyday and recycle year round! Continue your Earth Day recycling throughout the year. Your community offers a service that makes it easy. Make a promise to yourself to recycle throughout the year and encourage your neighbors to do the same.
