Heat Wave Hits Los Angeles

The heat will persist through the weekend in some spots. How are you keeping cool during the summer heat wave?

A heat wave will grip Los Angeles through Friday, with temperatures soaring to mid-80s along the beaches and low to mid-90s inland.

A strong high pressure system combined with a weak onshore flow is pushing daytime temperatures well above average, according to the National Weather Service.

"Heat is the name of the game," Weather Service forecasters said.

The warmest locations will be in the western San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley and Antelope Valley, where highs between 105 and 110 degrees are expected. , and temperatures in Burbank may reach 99 degrees Tuesday when 88 would have been normal, said Weather Service meteorologist Curt Kaplan.

Temperatures will be cooler for the beaches, mostly in the upper 70s and low 80s. Patchy dense fog is possible at times late at night and early in the morning. A high of 83 degrees is forecast Friday in Santa Monica, near 80 degrees in Marina del Rey, 87 degrees in Culver City and 86 degrees in Pacific Palisades.

Though the Weather Service predicted highs in the upper-60s for the South Bay, by late morning, temperatures had surpassed the predictions and were in the upper-70s and low-80s, according to Weather.gov.

A heat watch is in effect for most of the Los Angeles area Wednesday through Friday, but the heat could linger through Saturday, according to the Weather Service. But beginning Wednesday, that air mass will be accompanied by monsoonal moisture, creating humidity levels that will make temperatures feel even warmer than what the thermometer says.

"Very little relief is expected this week," the Weather Service said in a special weather statement. "By later in the week, humidities will be increasing as moisture moves in from the Southeast."

The forecast for the next seven days indicates temperatures will climb another couple of degrees or stay the same over the coming days, reaching their highest levels on Friday before a cooling trend takes hold Sunday.

Forecasters advised to stay hydrated, out of the sun and in an air-conditioned facility.

Amazing: two angry, miserable people projecting their personal issues into the public sphere...in a simple article about the weather!
