Three Brentwood School Squads Ranked in CIF Polls

The Eagles' volleyball, baseball and tennis teams are in the Top 10 in their divisions.

The California Interscholastic Federation has released its latest Southern Section Top 10 polls and teams are ranked in three sports.

In boys volleyball, the Eagles are sixth in CIF's Division IV despite dropping their last two matches to Windward (ranked No. 3 in Division IV) and Palos Verdes Chadwick (No. 1 in Division V). Brentwood finished third in the Olympic League last season behind Artesia Valley Christian and Sun Valley Village Christian, but has been moved to the Alpha League this spring. 

The Eagles (6-2 overall, 0-1 in league) were swept by Rio Mesa in the first round of the Southern Section playoffs last year. They are led by senior setter/outside hitter , who is averaging 24 kills, four blocks and 37 assists per match, senior outside hitter/middle blocker , who is averaging five aces, and libero/outside hitter (27 digs).

Brentwood resumes league play at home against Santa Monica Crossroads at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

In baseball, the Eagles are ranked 10th in Division VI and opened Delphic League play on Tuesday with an 11-0 rout of visiting Kilpatrick to improve to 6-0 overall. Head coach 's squad is being led offensively by , who began the week batting .500 and has a 1.063 slugging percentage with two home runs so far.

On the mound, senior  began the week 2-0 with a 2.15 earned run average in 13 innings pitched. At the plate he is slugging .600 with a home run, four runs score and seven RBIs. 

Brentwood has bounced back from a dismal 2009-10 season in which the Eagles finished 6-15 overall and 0-12 in Alpha League play. The team has racked up 47 runs through six games this season.

In boys tennis, Brentwood is ranked No. 8 in Division I. The Eagles always play one of the most difficult schedules in Southern California and this year is no exception. Ahead of Brentwood in the poll are Irvine University, Corona del Mar, Palos Verdes, North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake, Irvine Woodbridge, Palos Verdes Peninsula and Santa Barbara.

's squad is 8-1 in dual matches, having won eight in a row since dropping its season opener 13-5 to Harvard-Westlake in North Hollywood on March 1. Since then, the Eagles have defeated Loyola, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Mira Costa, Viewpoint, Malibu and league rival Crossroads twice, by 15-3 and 16-2 scores.
