Smiles, upbeat music, candy and lots of St. Patrick's Day green greeted weary L.A. Marathon runners at 26th St. and San Vicente Boulevard in Brentwood Sunday.
Sandra Rivera, of Los Angeles, approached the 24 mile marker in sunglasses wearing a smile, a green tie and fedora. She said it's been a long day but was happy to see the end of the race near.
Late into the race day, local spectators from 26/San Vicente to Bristol Avenue kept cheering runners on. A few broke down to catch their breath, walk and muscle on.
The bulk of the capacity field of 24,000 L.A. runners from all 50 states and
61 nations left Dodger Stadium at 7:25 a.m. under partly cloudy skies with a
temperature of 55 degrees, with the wind at 2-3 mph.
