Hoops Coach Pugliese Leaving Brentwood School

The boys basketball pilot and Associate Athletics Director is stepping down after two seasons.

John Pugliese, the Associate Athletics Director and head coach of the boys basketball team at Brentwood School is leaving Los Angeles to accept a position as an assistant coach for the men's basketball team at Wayne State College in Nebraska.

In Pugliese's two seasons at Brentwood, the Eagles were 24-21 overall and reached the CIF Southern Section Division 5AA quarterfinals in 2009-10, when they went 17-8 and tied for second in the Olympic League. Last season, Brentwood was 0-10 in the Alpha League and 9-15 overall. 

Pugliese developed a year-round basketball program and, as Associate Athletics Director, strategized with student-athletes, coaches and parents about ways to promote the school's athletes to college coaches.

Brentwood won eight straight games under Pugliese from December 4, 2009 to January 11, 2010. The Eagles later beat Village Christian and Fairmont Prep in the playoffs before falling to La Verne Lutheran, 68-51. 

Prior to Brentwood, Pugliese served as an assistant men's basketball coach at Wagner College in New York.
