Flashman Makes All-League Baseball Squad

University High's senior pitcher-infielder is a Western League first team selection.

The All-Western League baseball team has been selected and Nolan Flashman of University High has made the squad.

Flashman, a senior pitcher and infielder, is the Wildcats' captain and was voted to the first team after batting .493 with 28 hits, 37 RBI, 24 runs and six home runs. He was also 19-for-19 in stolen base attempts this season. 

On the mound, Flashman posted a 2.82 earned run average, allowing 38 hits, 18 earned runs and 31 walks with 66 strikeouts in 44 2/3 innings pitched. He had a record of 3-6 with two saves and four complete games in 12 appearances.

Sophomore Sam Wasserman of league champion Palisades and senior Robert Gsellman of runner-up Westchester were named the league's Most Valuable Players, Palisades senior Dylan Jeffers was named Pitcher of the year and Marcus Wilson of Hamilton was voted Freshman of the Year. 

Rounding out the first team are pitchers Harrison Simon of Palisades, Ryan Losman of Venice and Marc Huberman of Hamilton; catcher Cary Jacobson of Palisades; first baseman Phillip Joseph of Palisades; second baseman Josh McKie of LACES; shortstops Nolan Sax of Venice, Kenny Peoples-Walls of Westchester and Christian Dye of LACES; outfielders Chase Holmes and Jason Barnett of Palisades and Ryan Taylor of LACES; and Palisades utility player Spencer Simon.

Second team selections are pitchers Vincent Medina of Venice, Nick Poulos of Palisades and Ryan Israel of Hamilton; catcher Chad Lawhon of Venice; first baseman Steven Diaz of Venice; second baseman Seth Victor of Hamilton; third basemen Francisco Hernandez of Hamilton and Derek Martin of LACES; shortstops Elliot Barzilli of Palisades and David Winte of Fairfax; utility player Anthony Noriega of Westchester; and outfielders Keaton Frey and Sal Becerra of Venice and Andy Landaverde of Hamilton.

University finished 14-14 overall and 3-9 (fifth place out of seven teams) in the Western League this season. The Wildcats were seeded eighth in the City Section Division II playoffs and lost 1-0 in eight innings to ninth-seeded North Hollywood in the first round.
