Brentwood Spikers No. 1 in CIF Poll

The Eagles top the Southern Section Division 3A volleyball rankings.

The CIF Southern Section has released this week's girls volleyball polls and is ranked No. 1 in Division 3A. The Eagles (10-3) went 6-0 at their own Brentwood Varsity Invitational last week.

The poll was voted on, coordinated and finalized by the . Top 10 polls for each division will be updated weekly throughout the season.

Rim of the World is ranked No. 2. Brentwood's rivals Campbell Hall and Windward are third and fifth in the poll, respectively. Brentood travels to Campbell Hall on Oct. 4.

The Eagles, coached by , last won a Southern Section title in 2008 when they went 30-5, captured the Division 3AA crown and took third in the state tournament.

In football, Brentwood is on this week's list of "others under consideration" in the , just outside the Top 10. The Eagles (1-2) lost to St. Monica 34-14 in a nonleague game Saturday.

Alpha League rivals Sierra Canyon, Paraclete and Campbell Hall are the top three ranked teams in the division and another Alpha League school, Downey Calvary Christian, is at No. 10. 

In girls tennis, Brentwood (4-2) is on the "others under consideration" list in Division 1 along with Northwood. Irvine University, Campbell Hall, Peninsula, Dana Hills and Palm Desert are the top five ranked teams in the division.   

The Eagles have won three matches in a row, beating Beverly Hills 12-6, Crossroads 17-1 and Mira Costa 12-6 last week. They host Alpha League rival Campbell Hall at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday.

In boys water polo, Brentwood (4-1) is ranked ninth in Division 7, one position ahead of Arroyo and one spot behind Lompoc Cabrillo. Nipomo tops the rankings, followed by Cajon and Don Lugo.

Brentwood has won three straight since its lone defeat (a 12-10 overtime loss to Flintridge Prep on Sept. 21), sweeping Venice, Palisades and Sherman Oaks Notre Dame to win the . The Eagles host Milken Community at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.

In girls cross country, Brentwood is ranked No. 7 in this week's Division 5 poll. The Eagles are ahead of Cate, Lancaster Desert Christian and Sage Hill. Chadwick is ranked No. 1 in the division, followed by Thacher, Xavier Prep, St. Margaret's, Pasadena Poly and Fintridge Prep. 

Brentwood hosts the first meet at 4 p.m. on Oct. 6.
