Brentwood School Tennis Opens Playoffs Wednesday

The Alpha League winners host Fullerton in the first round of the Southern Section Division 1 draw.

The released its boys' tennis playoff pairings Monday morning and has a home match in the first round of the 32-team tournament.

The Eagles, who won the , will host Fullerton, the third-place team from the Freeway League, at 3 p.m. Wednesday on the upper school campus. The winner will advance to the second round to meet either a wildcard or South Coast League champion Dana Hills on Friday.

Brentwood, which beat Palm Desert on games to win the Division 2 title last spring, has reached 13 consecutive section finals. Coach has the Eagles (12-1) primed for yet another run at a championship, this time in the highest division.

Pacific Coast League champion Irvine University is the No. 1 seed, followed by Bay League champion Palos Verdes. Brentwood, ranked eighth in the final Southern Section regular season , is not seeded.

The Eagles' only loss was a 13-5 defeat in North Hollywood to Mission League champion Harvard-Westlake, which will play a wildcard team in the first round.

The quarterfinals are next Tuesday, semifinals are May 24 and the finals in all divisions are at noon Wednesday, June 1, at The Claremont Club.

All matches are round robin scoring with nine singles sets and nine doubles sets each worth one point. The first team to make 10 points wins. If the match is tied 9-9, the team with the most total games is the winner. If still tied, tiebreakers are played to decide the outcome.
