Brentwood Football Loses No Ground

Despite a loss, the Eagles stay just outside the East Valley Top 10 poll.

The CIF Southern Section office released this week's Top 10 football rankings and Brentwood School is again among the teams on the "others" list in the East Valley Division, despite the Eagles losing their season opener to Grace Brethren of Simi Valley, 26-23, last Friday.

Joining Brentwood in the "others" category, just outside the Top 10, are Rubidoux of the Mountain Valley League, Ontario Christian (Ambassador League), Riverside Notre Dame (Mountain Valley League), Yucca Valley (De Anza League) and Sage Hill (Academy League). Yucca Valley beat Rubidoux 36-13 in the opener for both schools.

Three Alpha League rivals are ranked in the Top 10 in the division. Sierra Canyon stayed atop the poll after trouncing Horizon 58-7 and Paraclete remained No. 2 despite losing its season opener to Serrano. Campbell Hall moved up to No. 3 after beating Cerritos Valley Christian 21-11.

Idle Bishop Diego (Frontier League) remained in the No. 4 spot while Twentynine Palms (De Anza League) won to move from sixth to fifth. After losing its opener to Coronado, St. Margaret's (Academy League) fell from third to sixth.

Grace Brethren (Frontier League) moved up one spot from No. 8 to No. 7 after beating Brentwood. Aquinas of the Ambassador League won and moved up one spot to No. 8 and Big Bear (De Anza League), which lost last week, dropped from seventh to ninth. Linfield Christian (Ambassador League) won and moved into the Top 10 after having been on the list of others in the preseason poll.

Paraclete won the East Valley Division (XII) last season, beating St. Margaret's in the final. Brentwood lost to Sierra Canyon 26-10, was blanked by Paraclete 28-0 and beat Campbell Hall 23-14 last season on its way to an 8-3 record. The Eagles lost to Rubidoux in the first round of the playoffs.

Brentwood hosts Windward, ranked No. 2 in the Southern Section's Division 1 8-Man rankings, at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Wildcats are the defending Division 1 8-Man champions, having beaten Excelsior in overtime of the championship game. The Eagles blanked Windward 22-0 last season.
