Brentwood Run Canceled After Sponsors Pull Out

The Brentwood 5k/10k Run Walk, held on San Vicente Boulevard the weekend before Memorial Day for the last 36 years, is canceled after two key sponsors pull out.

The 36th annual Brentwood 5k/10k Run and Walk event scheduled for May 27—the Sunday before Memorial Day—has been cancelled.

W2 Promotions owner Walt Walston points to high City fees and a lack of key sponsorship as cause for the cancelation.

Walston told Patch that it costs him about $11,000 to close down San Vicente Boulevard for the event.

"We had two major sponsors drop out early last month and with the City fees so high we do not have time to reach out to new sponsors this late," Walston said.

Walston declined to tell Patch which sponsored pulled out, saying it might make them less likely to want to help fund the event again next year.

"And I just can't afford that," Walston said.

According to the event page, sponsors for the run included Frontrunners LA, UCLA Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center & Orthopaedic Hospital and California Pizza Kitchen.
