Watch: Sellers, Glendora Unified Honor Custodian’s 50 Years of Service

Tim Swann attended Glendora schools and worked for Glendora Unified for 50 years.

Tim Swann, 69, went to school at Sellers Elementary back when it was a middle school. And after more than 50 years, you can say he never really left.

But Sellers Elementary and the Glendora Unified School District finally bid adieu to Swann in a retirement celebration in Tuesday.

Swann dedicated his life working as a custodian for the same school district where he spent most of his school years. His gained his first job after graduating Glendora High School in 1962 with the school district. He spent 46 of his 50 years with Glendora Unified as a custodian for Sellers Elementary School, where he retired as the head custodian on Dec. 30, 2012.

On Tuesday, the district and Sellers Elementary honored Swann’s unparalleled loyalty with an assembly in the school’s multipurpose, now renamed the Tim Swann Multipurpose Room.

Students wore blue hats in honor of Swann and the signature blue hat he often for work.

“He served our school for 46 years and he kept it immaculate,” said Sellers Principal Steve Bishop.

I don;t know Tim but I wish him well in his retirement. As a retired teacher, I can attest to the fact that a good custodian is as crucial to a school as any other staff member...especially if they take pride in their work like Tim. I'm sure he will be greatly missed! Sellers was very lucky to have such a man working there!

Mr. Swann was custodian when I went to Sellers and when my daughters attended school there. I don't think there was ever a day he didn't have a smile on his face. I had the pleasure of being friends with his children when we were in high school and I know him to be a beloved father. Great man, great lifetime of service. Thank you Mr. Swann.
