University High School Student Chosen as U.S. Presidential Scholar

For the first time in the history of University High School in West Los Angeles, one of its brightest students, Lillian Peng, has been selected as a U.S. Presidential Scholar.

"All who know Lillian know what a remarkable student and person she is. I cannot imagine anyone more deserving," said Uni High Principal Eric Davidson.

Every year only 141 students are chosen nationally as recipients of the Presidential Scholars Award, considered to be the best. Founded in 1964 under President Johnson, only about 6,000 American students have received the award.

Davidson said that annually about 2,600 graduating seniors are invited to apply out of approximately three million graduating seniors.  After two layers of review the 141 recipients are chosen. They are then flown to Washington DC where they are feted, awarded and invited to events where they will meet and interact with notable Americans.

Peng named Deborah Robbins as her most influential teacher.

"We congratulate and thank Lillian, Deborah and all the outstanding teachers at University High School who have assisted Lillian in attaining this uniquely amazing accomplishment," Davidson added.
