Glendora Unified Receives $450,000 Donation

The FGUS donation will cover a variety of programs in each of the district’s schools.

The Foundation for Glendora Unified Schools turned in another sizeable donation to Glendora Unified schools this year.

On Oct. 8 during the district’s school board meeting, FGUS presented a check to the district for $450,000. The funds were raised by FGUS in 2011 for the 2012 school year.

The funds have been allocated to the elementary schools’ music program, AVID and GATE in the middle schools and high school, college preparatory program Naviance, and ConnectEd, a parent communication program.

FGUS also aimed to make a contribution to each school in the district for each site’s needs. About 10 percent of the total donation was allocated to this goal.

“The generosity of our parents, local businesses, and community members has made this possible,” said FGUS president Mike Beckman.  “With their continued involvement, we are looking forward to reaching our objective of raising $475,000 for our schools this year.”

Over the past ten years, FGUS has raised over $2.1 million.

I see that a generous portion of the monies is being funneled into the programs for academically gifted. I do hope some monies are being designated for the kids who really need extra help. Remedial programs, Special Ed programs, programs for students who have language barriers, students at risk....they all deserve some help too.
