Brentwood School Student Heads to D.C. as Student Leader

Students in 2013 Bank of America Student Leadership Program participate in a service learning project and a series of interactive workshops, including Capitol Hill briefings.

Gavin Pak, a recent graduate from Brentwood School, has been chosen as one of 225 students from across the nation to take part in the 2013 Bank of America Student Leaders Program, where he has been awarded eight-week paid internship at a local nonprofit.

Pak will be interning at the Venice Boys and Girls Club.

Despite gains in the overall job market, it is teens that still have the highest unemployment rate with one out of every seven young people not being in school or working, according to Bank of America. In response to this pressing issue, Bank of America created its Student Leaders Program in 2004 to offer our nation’s high school students an opportunity to participate in a leadership program at their local community nonprofit.

In addition to the paid internship, all students will attend a weeklong Bank of America Student Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C., from July 8 through 13. Summit activities include a service learning project and a series of interactive workshops, including Capitol Hill briefings and sessions on financial education and leadership development skills.

Pak was chosen because of his accomplishments throughout his high school career, including being Los Angeles Regional Chair for Borderless Books, President of the Asian Student Association, and member of the 2013 Brentwood Diversity Day Planning Committee, just to name a few.
