ARCHER SOFTBALL HOME TO OPEN CIF PLAYOFFS THURSDAY

Team Posts Best Record in School History

The Archer School for Girls (Brentwood) varsity softball team will ride a nine-game win streak into the first round of the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section (CIF-SS) Division 7 playoffs Thursday, May 17th, as they face North County Christian (Atascadero) on the campus of Archer, game time is 3:30pm.  32 out of close to 100 teams have qualified for the CIF-SS Division 7 single elimination playoffs, the winner of which will advance to the round of 16 and face the winner of #4 seeded Faith Baptist (Canoga Park) and Providence (Burbank).  The second round game will be played May 22 at a site to be determined.

Archer, 14-3 overall, put together an undefeated league record to capture the Delphic League Championship and earn the right to host the first round game.

North County Christian (NCC) also put together an impressive season, chalking up a 13-2 record and a share of the Coast Valley League Championship.  After losing a coin flip, NCC enters the playoffs as a second place team and will make the four hour drive south to Archer.  The game on Thursday marks the first time in school history that Archer will host a CIF playoff game on its historic campus.  The school was once the Eastern Star Retirement Home (built in 1931) and is a designated National Historical Landmark.

NCC is led by Kylie Bergquist, a senior right hand pitcher that has won all 13 games for the Crusaders.  Archer also is led by a senior right hand pitcher, Christine Zaccaro.  Zaccaro has put together an amazing season, striking out 56 batters in 48 innings and posting a 1.31 ERA.  Zaccaro opened the season with a perfect game and closed the regular season with three perfect innings of work which earned her the win.  Zaccaro, hitting in the clean-up spot, has driven in 25 runs on the year while hitting .563.  Also of note is the fact that both senior right handers are backed up pitching by their sisters, who are both sophomore left handers.

Archer has drawn large crowds this year for it's CIF playoff games in volleyball and basketball and the same is expected for Thursday's 3;30pm start time.
