"America relies on the men and women of the military for all of the freedoms that we so enjoy," Knabe said. "The county should be a leader in supporting our veterans with service-related disabilities, who have made extraordinary sacrifices on behalf of our country."

Knabe previewed a motion -- to be formally presented next week -- to establish a program for disabled vets similar to one offered to small business owners.

The county is required to choose the lowest cost, qualified contractor for most goods and services but offers a bid price reduction to local small businesses.

Under Knabe's plan, business owned by disabled vets would also be eligible for a bid reduction.
