Gun Control Groups Say It's Enough

Supporters of gun legislation demonstrated at the Federal Building on Wilshire Boulevard Saturday following the shootings in Newtown, CT.

Sheri Barnett relived her son's murder when she heard of Friday's killing in Newtown, CT, of 26 people, most of them children.

"We are all heart sick," Barnett said Saturday at the Federal Building on Wilshire Boulevard in Westwood, where supporters of gun legislation gathered to call for stricter controls on assault weapons.

Barnett's son was killed in a 1998 drive-by shooting in Harbor City, and the crime was never solved.

The Palos Verdes resident and others at the rally and vigil hope that this latest mass killing will spur the country to reinstate an assault weapons ban.

Several dozen demonstators were expected at the rally organized by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, The Violence Prevention Coalition of Los Angeles, and Women Against Gun Violence.

Margo Bennett, a member of Women Against Gun Violence, said the group believes the tide is turning in favor of sensible gun legislation in the wake of the latest killings.

"It's enough," said Bennett. "We believe the tide is changing."

The blood of 20 Newtown Children, 6 Adults are on Adam and Adam's mother. The mother was in denial about her son. She took him to a shooting range, allowed him to play violent video games, and ignore her son, so he felt unloved in his mind. The huge red flag: Adam's mother saying, "My family and sons are OFF LIMITS" talking in conversations. What mother do you know who says Off Limits about talking about my sons, daughters? Normally, mothers bore you to death talking, bragging about their children. Plus, Adam's mother was a teacher. Several people knew information, but were too polite to pursue. Now you have death, hysteria, fear, etc. Adam's mother visited an expensive spa for about a week. She left her son home alone and again in denial about her son. She returns from her Spa trip one day and the next day, death.

All you nice people. Please polietly ask the gangs and "bad guys & gals" to remove their auto guns, AK 47's from underneath their baby's and children's beds. I've seen this several times, first hand. Now, if you ask really nice, they will do what you ask, LOL, LOL

Politics is fundamental to all governments and all ideologies. Of course the Newtown Massacre would generate political controversy. When the gun lobby says arm the teachers, that's politics. When the majority calls for gun control, that's politics too. Politics is simply how competing interests determine public policy. As for your water analogy, water is already highly regulated as it should be to provide clean and reliable supplies in the face of growing scarcity. Surely you understand that water comes out of the sky in the form of rain and nothing can live without it. As for banning airplanes, the U.S. and other nations have taken other less hysterical measures like strengthening cockpit doors, and numerous strict security measures. There has been no repeat of 9/11. Socialism is an economic system just as is Capitalism. A Capitalist system can have gun control, high taxes, and tyranny but still be Capitalist. A Socialist system can can have the opposite and still be Socialist. The distinguishing characteristic between the two systems is that under Socialism there has to be some degree of public ownership of the means of production, whereas under Capitalism the the means of production is owned privately. Read history, study political science and comparative governments, get your high school diploma, and maybe you'll be able to join in an intelligent political conversation.
Mike E. December 22, 2012 at 05:53 AM
You're half right. There were two problems: Mom was a gun nut who didn't see any reason to lock her guns, and the kid took her guns, bought some ammo and massacred a bunch of people. If there were no guns in the house, if there was a law requiring no gun could be sold without a lock, if there were a waiting period to buy ammo and a limit on quantity, this likely would not have happened.
Mike E. December 22, 2012 at 06:00 AM
It's that simple, huh? I'm a Dad myself and I agree on the importance of having a loving, active, parent of each gender. How many Dad's are killed by guns each day? If gun nuts stopped killing them, by your logic, we would have fewer gun massacres. Also, by your logic, the millions of kids without a Dad in the home should be resulting in millions of gun massacres.
Mike E. December 22, 2012 at 06:15 AM
Sure, if people were getting killed by basketballs, then some kind of protective measures would be taken for school and proffesional basketball, just as they have for baseball and football. If massacres are just a problem of stupid people having guns, shouldn't we stop selling them to stupid people?
Mike E. December 22, 2012 at 06:23 AM
Shooting a gun into the air is not much different than shooting a gun at the ground from a small plane. What goes up, must come down. Shooting a gun aimlessly into the air, especially in urban areas is NOT a good thing, and it's totally illegal. Why doesn't the NRA teach it's gun nuts about such reckless behavior? No wonder the majority of Americans are turning against lawless gun ownership.
Mike E. December 22, 2012 at 06:37 AM
Good point Ken. That's where the NRA caved in. Even the NRA has to bow to the fact that the only weapons legally available to them are small arms, yet we still have hard-core gun wackos who insist they need guns because they have special info that the government is planning to confiscate all guns to clear the way for imposing Communist tyranny. So this very small group thinks they can defeat the U.S. military with their pop-guns, and without artillery, Claymores, drones, an air force, or a navy. And do they think every time they kill an American soldier, the rest of us will applaud? Fire on our flag, and face the consequences.
Brian Aherne December 22, 2012 at 06:51 AM
This reply is to Mike E.'s reply below. You are out-of-touch as an economic analyist and political theorist. One example is your statement that socialism must have public ownership. Incorrect! It is about control, which usually, but not necessarily, follows ownership. Think National Socialism (WWII Germany and Nazis). The so- called private companies were that, but also rigidly controlled/regulated by the Nazis. I will avoid the modern equivalents in the USA, but you do need to update your facts, and perhaps understanding will follow. BTW, elsewhere you claim that the NRA does not teach about firing guns into the air. I am not an NRA member, so I am not positive, but I suspect you are simply making this up to suit your own prejudice and lack of knowledge. Although your physics are not necessarily accurate, it is definitely a dangerous thing to do.

it was the mother's fault, 100%......she knew how sick this young man was, but she went out and bought guns for him to use...
nonoise December 22, 2012 at 05:56 PM
Mother's fault 100%. What did the mom do so the dad could not see the son? Dad's are important in a boy's life. Problem with society, no dad's. Women's lib says men are not needed. This is a case in point showing that dad's are important. Dad's are needed. Where is the side of the story that the dad may be a victim too.
nonoise December 22, 2012 at 06:02 PM
Call out dad's and make a law that they must be involved in their kids lives. And, make another law that mothers must allow dad's visitation time. Where are the father's right advocates?

Accepting and caring about people with disabilities is great. But, sounds as though the mother allowed her mentally ill son live like a wild animal without any windows. Adam was allowed to watch and play hours of VIOLENT Video games. Something was wrong with the mother. She took him to the shooting range.
Pay Attention December 23, 2012 at 02:47 AM
Are you kidding me. The father paid $300,000 annual alimony. Sounds as though he needed to escape the CRAZY house. Adam and his mother drove the father out of the house. At the end, the father was smart because he'd be dead too. Let's hear from the father because he knows what crazy, fighting, insanity behind those close doors.
Pay Attention December 23, 2012 at 02:48 AM
Sounds as though the mother and father didn't view raising Adam in the same way. So, he ran from the crazy, insanity.

How about less drug(unless one really, really needs) and more off the cell phones, IPHONE, IPAD, etc. and focus on your children and dogs. I've seen more people on their electric devices while walking their children, pushing strollers, walking dogs, walking across the street with their children & dogs, Less drugs and please take your children to the park and let them run around until exhausted, include them social & active activities.

Let's stop shielding the murders, killers, rapists, slauders, etc. Websites showing the results of these evil people, so others will view and understand what the victums go through or went through. Hiding all this blood shed, etc. is not giving the public a reality check---yes, this can happen to you.

Why do parents spend lots of money on toys, etc and not give them self-defense classes? Self defense class, ASAP, early the better.

Along with allowing him to watch and play Violent Video games. The mother felt her son was fine, so 1 week before she traveled to a 5 star spa. Upon her return, the next day, Adam put 4 bullets in her head and slaudered 20 children and 6 adults. Reason why 26 were slaudered because Adam felt his mother loved the children more than him. Mmmmmmm, something was wrong with the mother. She told people her children were "Off Limits" during social and all conversations. Something wrong with this picture and huge red flags!! Normally, mother bore you too death and brag about their kids until your eye roll to the back of your eye sockets. She told everyone, off limits. Mmmmmmmmmm. Newtown people too polite and their politeness cost them several lives

It's not the gun it's the person or evil person behind the gun or rifle, etc. Simple example, car drivers--some Mercedes Benz drive fast, aggressive, cutting in front of others. Other Mercedes Benz drive slow, polite, using signal. It's not the gun!! It's not the car!! It's not the motorcyle!! It's not the SUV!!

Anyone who doesn't want a background check, anyone who doesn't screening or background check of their immediate family members, this is a red flag that you kids, spouse, have something to hide and might harm others who you work or play.

Mike E. How do you separate the stupid from the crazy? Millions of Stupid people don't own guns, but tell gun owners what to do. Next time you're in trouble, being attacked by a robber or rapist, wallet robbed, etc., please don't call a policeman with a gun. In other situations, please don't call the SWAT team with guns.
Pay Attention December 23, 2012 at 03:36 AM
Mike E. Ct. has the toughest gun laws. Didn't work, doesn't work. It's the person or evil behind the gun or guns. News flash for you, millions of women, girls own and know how to shoot them. Lots of them look a Sunday School teacher. At an early age, classes for children, self-defense classes. I believe most people don't desire this, but we're FORCED to act like we are in a COMBAT ZONE

In Ct., politeness cost lives and pain forever for those families. Speakup about weird it was about Adam "Off Limits" to talk about in discussions. Speakup about bullies, but you'll be a "Snitch", "Squeeler" and be labeled until High School which I told by 2 High School Students.
