Sheri Barnett relived her son's murder when she heard of Friday's killing in Newtown, CT, of 26 people, most of them children.
"We are all heart sick," Barnett said Saturday at the Federal Building on Wilshire Boulevard in Westwood, where supporters of gun legislation gathered to call for stricter controls on assault weapons.
Barnett's son was killed in a 1998 drive-by shooting in Harbor City, and the crime was never solved.
The Palos Verdes resident and others at the rally and vigil hope that this latest mass killing will spur the country to reinstate an assault weapons ban.
Several dozen demonstators were expected at the rally organized by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, The Violence Prevention Coalition of Los Angeles, and Women Against Gun Violence.
Margo Bennett, a member of Women Against Gun Violence, said the group believes the tide is turning in favor of sensible gun legislation in the wake of the latest killings.
"It's enough," said Bennett. "We believe the tide is changing."
As for your water analogy, water is already highly regulated as it should be to provide clean and reliable supplies in the face of growing scarcity. Surely you understand that water comes out of the sky in the form of rain and nothing can live without it. As for banning airplanes, the U.S. and other nations have taken other less hysterical measures like strengthening cockpit doors, and numerous strict security measures. There has been no repeat of 9/11. Socialism is an economic system just as is Capitalism. A Capitalist system can have gun control, high taxes, and tyranny but still be Capitalist. A Socialist system can can have the opposite and still be Socialist. The distinguishing characteristic between the two systems is that under Socialism there has to be some degree of public ownership of the means of production, whereas under Capitalism the the means of production is owned privately. Read history, study political science and comparative governments, get your high school diploma, and maybe you'll be able to join in an intelligent political conversation.
And do they think every time they kill an American soldier, the rest of us will applaud? Fire on our flag, and face the consequences.
BTW, elsewhere you claim that the NRA does not teach about firing guns into the air. I am not an NRA member, so I am not positive, but I suspect you are simply making this up to suit your own prejudice and lack of knowledge. Although your physics are not necessarily accurate, it is definitely a dangerous thing to do.
Where is the side of the story that the dad may be a victim too.
Where are the father's right advocates?
Websites showing the results of these evil people, so others will view and understand what the victums go through or went through. Hiding all this blood shed, etc. is not giving the public a reality check---yes, this can happen to you.
It's not the gun!! It's not the car!! It's not the motorcyle!! It's not the SUV!!
At an early age, classes for children, self-defense classes. I believe most people don't desire this, but we're FORCED to act like we are in a COMBAT ZONE
You must live in a bubble. Hundred, thousands murdered, die, slaudered from knife attacks. Pepper spray and Bear Spray--nobody dies. Knives, baseball bats, etc, yes.
Don't you realize that the American way is Victums have no rights and can be sued whereas the Murders, Rapists, Slauders, etc. have rights and people feel sorry for because they didn't do it(LOL)
