A paparazzo was struck and killed Tuesday by a motorist while crossing Sepulveda Boulevard after he took a picture of a white Ferrari he thought was owned by singer Justin Bieber, a Los Angeles police officer said.
Paramedics rushed the photographer to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, said Officer James Stoughton of the West Traffic Division. The motorist stayed at the scene but it is not immediately known whether he was arrested or cited.
The photographer has not been identified.
About 5:45 p.m., a California Highway Patrol officer stopped the Ferrari on the northbound 405 Freeway at Getty Center Drive, where the car exited to Sepulveda Boulevard and Getty Center Drive, Stoughton said.
The photographer parked his car, crossed Sepulveda Boulevard, took some pictures and was hit by a motorist while crossing the street back to his vehicle, Stoughton said.
It was not immediately known whether the Ferrari was actually owned by Bieber, Stoughton said. According to the Los Angeles Times, CHP officials said Bieber was not in the car when it was stopped. It was also unclear who was driving.
