LAPD Issues Alert About Construction Site Burglaries in West L.A. Area

Senior Lead Officer Maria Gray sends a message to Brentwood residents.

The West L.A. LAPD Division has issued an alert for the area about a spike in burglaries from construction site. See the attached PDF.

The following message is from Officer Maria Gray, the senior lead officer for the Brentwood area:

Construction site thefts are an under-reported type of crime because many construction site foremen are reluctant to report the thefts in an effort to avoid their insurance rates going up.  So the thieves are pretty brazen about stealing from the sites since they know the odds of getting caught are none to slim.

Even if the site has nothing to do with you and your family, keep in mind that the site may be a draw for criminals to come into the neighborhood.  They are opportunistic and will steal whatever they can get their hands on so it behooves all of us to pay attention to what's happening in our neighborhoods.
If you have a construction site in your neighborhood, please be mindful of any activity you see at the site during the evening hours.  Call 911 asap if you see any suspicious people in the site after hours.

I would suggest that the companies hire a security guard during the evening hours.  When you consider all the expense that goes into building or remodeling a home it doesn't seem to me too unreasonable a cost to pay for a guard at night.   In fact, it's my humble opinion that it should be required.
