Holiday Crackdown on Impaired Drivers Nets Results

The effort will continue through Tuesday. Don't drink and drive or drive under the influence of anything that impairs you.

A holiday crackdown on drunken drivers has removed 1,480 motorists suspected of driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol off Los Angeles County roads over a recent two-week period, according to the sheriff's department.

The reporting period ran from 12:01 a.m Friday, Dec. 14 through midnight Thursday, Dec. 27 and represents arrests from 100 different agencies, although some agencies have not yet reported their final counts, according to the sheriff's department.

This arrest total represents a drop of 369 from the total arrested during the same time frame last year, according to the sheriff's department.

The sheriff's department warned drivers there will be another maximum enforcement effort during the final five days of this year's holiday anti-drunken driving effort, which will end midnight Tuesday.

Funding for this enforcement program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
