Brentwood Police Blotter: Sibling Charged in Assault, Dog Stolen

The following information was supplied by the West L.A. Division of the Los Angeles Police Department. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

A man was arrested at 11:15 p.m., April 2 in the 12000 block of Wilshire Boulevard and charged with assault and battery after leaving the victim lying on the ground bleeding profusely, according to Los Angeles police.

Twitter user @LAScanner initially reported the scanner dispatch of a stabbing at the Wilshire Motel at Wilshire Boulevard and Saltair Avenue that night, but according to Brentwood's LAPD Senior Lead Officer Maria Gray, it was two brothers fighting and no weapon was found.

According to police, the victim, witnesses and suspect know each other and had been drinking prior to the incident. The two brothers present in the group became engaged in an argument and then fought. The victim reportedly lost consciousness and when he awoke, discovered the suspect "sitting on his chest" and saw a deep gash on his left wrist that was bleeding profusely. The suspect got up and fled. Police were notified and took the suspect into custody.

A message from Senior Lead Officer Maria Gray:

Since we are all spending so much time on cell phones to get through the day, it is worth noting that care must be taken to prevent becoming a victim of a crime while simply walking and talking/texting on our phones. We’ve all seen it happen before-- sometimes on funny videos-- of people bumping into things or falling into pools while distractedly using their phones. But what’s not so funny is that it has become common practice for criminals to take advantage of those distracted moments and commit robberies, purse-snatches, pick-pocketing or other thefts. While walking anywhere, you should be walking with your head held high and with purpose. Obviously, you should be aware of your surroundings. Hard to do when you’re on the phone. Also, when you’re at a table at your favorite coffee shop and jabbering away, keep in mind that criminals go to those same coffee shops for the sole purpose of taking advantage of you by stealing your wallet while you’re on the phone!
