UPDATE: Bicyclist Collides with Car, Airlifted with Serious Injuries

The man, who suffered serious injuries to his face, neck and back in Topanga State Park in Pacific Palisades, was airlifted to a nearby hospital.

A bicyclist was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon in a crash with a vehicle in Topanga State Park in Pacific Palisades. The crash was reported at 4:08 p.m. in the area of 2200 Sullivan Fire Road, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A LAFD helicopter airlifted a 28-year-old man at about 4:30 p.m., according to personnel on scene, he suffered injuries to his face, neck and back, the fire department reported. He was transported to UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center where his condition was not specified.

LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey said that State Park rangers are handling the investigation.

Craig Sap, the Los Angeles District superintendent for the California State Park Rangers, said a ranger was dispatched to the scene to conduct an investigation on the reported accident.

"Our rangers investigate all accidents and misdemeanors that occur in the state parks," Sap said. "But for any serious crimes, such as murder or rape or any crime that requires forensic capabilities, we call in outside agencies to help us with the investigation."

Sap also said the report on this accident will be filed at its Calabasas Ranger station at 1925 Las Virgenes Road.
