Brandon Newman, a Pali High senior and videographer for the lacrosse team, shares with Patch his reasons for paying tribute to Max Tinglof, a recent Pali High graduate who was killed in November when .

Patch: How well did you know Max?

Newman: I didn't know him extremely well. I was the videographer for the lacrosse team this past season, so I did spend quite a bit of time with the team. Max definitely showed his leadership both on the field and off the field in the clubhouse with his teammates.

Patch: Why did you put this tribute video together?

Newman: His death was the first passing of a person who I knew well enough to call a friend, which really hit home for me. I wanted to do something for his family and friends who I saw were having an extremely rough time coping with his death. I made a documentary on the lacrosse team in the Spring so I had a lot of footage of him and the rest of the team I knew I could use. I thought that any images or videos his family could see of him that they had not already would be appreciated. I didn't want to just throw away footage that could mean so much to them.

Patch: What significance does the song ("Fix You" by Cold Play, Boyce Avenue feat. Tyler Ward acoustic cover) that you chose for the video hold?

Newman: I picked the song because it is about healing and I hope that this video will aid in that process for both his family and friends. While I know it will not make everything better again, if it helps even one person to overcome their sadness, I feel like I've succeeded. I chose the acoustic cover by Boyce Avenue because it comes across as more reflective and sincere than the original by Coldplay.
