Letter: Coordinating CERT Neighborhood Teams

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) co-coordinator and Palisadian Patric Cohen writes a letter seeking to organize CERT certified initial responders within neighborhoods.

To the Editor:

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a program sponsored by Los Angeles Fire Department to train community members to be initial responders. With LAFD staff cuts, a community approach is the most critical strategy available. Training courses are year-round in communities throughout the city. If you are interested in becoming CERT certified, please visit http://www.cert-la.com or call (818) 756-9674.

My role as CERT co-coordinator for Battalion 9 is to assist Pacific Palisades to organize neighborhood teams to address community-wide disasters. For your protection, LAFD does not release contact information of CERT trainees; therefore, if you are CERT certified, please forward your contact information to me at Certla9@gmail.com or call (424) 272-1669. Coordination is only possible if I know who and where you are.

Patric Cohen
Palisadian and CERT co-coordinator for Battalion 9
