Mr. Handyman of LA Donates Repair Services to Local Veteran’s Organization

In honor of Veteran’s Day, technicians from Mr. Handyman of Los Angeles performed 60 hours of repair and maintenance jobs on Monday, Nov. 11, all without a collecting a single penny in labor or material costs.

This initiative was the brainchild of franchise owner Ted Tenenbaum, who typically donates services to the community as part of National Day of Service and Remembrance but this year opted for Veteran’s Day. Tenenbaum partnered with a second local franchise owner named David Silverman, and they supported New Directions for Veterans, an L.A.-based not-for-profit organization dedicated to empowering veterans and facilitating their successful returns to families and society. Tenenbaum and Silverman, plus seven Mr. Handyman technicians and an eighth office employee, worked on the New Directions Oasis for Veteran Women in Mar Vista, which provides residential care to female veterans. Specific projects included painting, plumbing and electrical work, building and fixing furniture, and general decorative work.

"We were thrilled to work with New Directions on this Veteran’s Day project," said Tenenbaum. "We are always looking for ways to give back to our community and it was exciting to take part in a day that’s really about remembering and honoring the heroes that protect our freedoms every day."

In September, the national Mr. Handyman office, based in Ann Arbor, Mich., organized its fifth consecutive National Day of Service initiative around 9/11 and has donated a combined 3,700-plus hours of labor to groups in need in that time. Tenenbaum’s team is a major participant and this year found a willing and worthwhile cause with New Directions.

"Our brand is made up of local entrepreneurs who thrive in their communities, and we recommend and encourage our franchisees to give back," said Alex Roberts, President of Mr. Handyman. "Ted and David are prime examples of running a business and getting involved with your community the right way."
