Westside Weekend Get Out Guide

It'll be a wet Westside weekend, but don't let that stop you. Grab an umbrella and head out for some holiday fun. Let us know what you'll be doing — and share your photos!

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and all other celebrations of the season. Take a second to read up on these weekend activities, then bundle up the family against the rain and head on out.

Culver City Tour de Taste — Cycle, eat, ice-skate, then eat some more at the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition culinary ride on Sunday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Register at the Culver Hotel (corner of Washington Boulevard and Culver Boulevard) at 9 a.m. Short of heavy rain, bikers will get underway at 9:30 a.m. The tasting portion of the event will take place at noon, rain or shine.  Tickets are $20 for LACBC members and $30 for non-members. Purchase them online on the LACBC website. Parking for a fee is available behind Trader Joe's, 9290 Culver Blvd.

Santa Monica Main Street Tree Lighting — The annual lighting of the Yule tree starts at 5 p.m. Saturday with the arrival of Santa at the California Heritage Museum, 2612 Main St. just south of Ocean Park Boulevard. Bring your camera to take a picture of the kids and Saint Nicholas — it's free. The tree lighting and music by the Samohi Choir and Green Brooms Music Academy happens at 6 p.m. At 6:15 p.m., join the candlelight walk to the Shopping Cart Tree at Edgemar Courtyard and enjoy the music of Off Their Jingle Rockers and Th3 Trip. There will be caroling and parties hosted by businesses along Main Street. Check for city downtown parking locations.

Brentwood Holiday Home Tour — Take a tour of two homes and two businesses festively decorated for the holidays on Saturday, noon to 4 p.m., sponsored by the Liberty Union High School District Educational Foundation. After the tour, return to the Hannah Nicole Vineyards for wine, refreshments, prizes, entertainment and live/silent auctions. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $35 online at www.educationwins.org or $40 on Saturday at the Hannah Nicole Vineyards Tasting Room, 6700 Balfour Rd.

Dockweiler Beach "Make It and Take It" Kids Crafts Class — Kids up to 12, with an adult in tow, can enjoy the ocean view and make a craft at a free class Saturday, 11 a.m., at the Dockweiler Youth Center, 12505 Vista del Mar. Call 310-726-4128 for more information.

Coney Island Christmas — The Geffen Playhouse in Westwood presents Pulitzer Prize winner Donald Margulies' Coney Island Christmas, a new holiday show of nostalgia, music and merriment for all ages and faiths. Coney Island Christmas tells the story of a young Jewish girl who is cast as Jesus in the school’s Christmas pageant. The play "captures a timeless and universal tale of what it means to be an American during the holidays," says the playhouse website. Tickets, $45 to $75, Saturday to Dec. 30, can be purchased online or at the ticket office, 10886 Le Conte Ave.
