3rd Annual Archer Film Festival April 30-May 1

The Archer School for Girls will host its third annual student-run Film Festival on April 30 at the Westfield Century City Centre and May 1 on the school’s Brentwood campus in Los Angeles. Archer invites all ninth through twelfth grade Los Angeles students and U.S. all-girls school students to submit films to the event. The Festival is an annual highlight of the school’s creative curriculum and offers student filmmakers the opportunity to showcase their work and learn from notable industry professionals such as this year’s keynote speaker, Amanda Brown, writer of “Legally Blonde.”

“Young people are intrigued by the numerous pathways to success in entertainment,” said Reed Farley, Director of Archer’s Advanced Filmmaking Course. “The role of digital media opens possibilities for global exposure and an instant following, which did not exist even a couple years ago. This generation is in a unique position historically and this festival is a rare opportunity for students to get their voices heard here in Hollywood.”

The event kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday April 30 at the AMC Theaters in Westfield Century City with a keynote address from Brown, who parlayed her witty real-life observations as a bored law student in to a multi-title franchise of highly successful sequels and feature film releases in which the heroine prevails in spite of stereotyping, and screening of selected student films.

A partial list of the films include:

Absolutely Nothing: Polytechnic—Megan Tcheng

About The Archer Film Festival
The Archer Film Festival is an annual high school student film festival dedicated to recognizing and celebrating young filmmakers. The ultimate goal is to reinvent the traditionally chauvinistic worlds of television and film production, in order to create an array of opportunities there for both genders. The goal is not to exclude men, but rather include women in equal standing. As a result, the Festival is open to all high school student filmmakers. The Festival began in 2012 and featured keynote speaker Color Force founder Nina Jacobson, screening 20 student films representing a dozen schools from all over California. The 2014 Festival takes place April 30-May 1. For further information, visit archerfilmfestival.org.
