Westside Weekend Get Out Guide
From a Venice modern home tour to a Santa Monica comedy showcase, a lot is on tap on the Westside for this Presidents Day weekend.
Look for a host of events and activities to take place this weekend on the Westside. If you're lucky to have Monday, Presidents Day, as a holiday, take advantage of the good weather that's expected and Get Out!
• Venice - The Modern Home Tours highlights the best in modern residential architecture and it's on for Venice again, starting at 11 a.m., Saturday. The self-guided tour takes ticket holders through at least seven homes deemed outstanding in creative design. Advance tickets are $30 each online until Friday, 8 p.m., then available at will-call locations for $40. Children 12 and under are free. For information, email cameron@modernhometours.com.
• Santa Monica - Get ready for a volley of jokes, some meant only for the ears of those 21-plus, as the M.i.'s Westside Comedy Theater at 1323-A 3rd St. Promenade presents Twelve Shiny Nickels, a one-hour standup comedy showcase featuring 12 comedians each presenting five minutes of his or her best material. The show begins at 11 p.m.; doors open at 10:45 p.m. Tickets are $5. Phone: 310-451-0850

• Culver City - Pushing, shoving, elbowing, what's not to love about roller derby? The Rocket Queens face the Santa Cruz Harbor Hellcats and Road Ragers take on the Santa Cruz Seabright Sirens Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium. The first bout is at 7 p.m. and second bout at 8:30 p.m.; doors open at 6:30 p.m. General admission tickets are $13 presale and $15 at the door. Children under 10, students and military are $10. • Farmers Markets - Sunday's the perfect day to grab your recyclable tote and head for the neighborhood bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables. The Pacific Palisades Farmers Market opens at 8 a.m. and runs to noon at 1037 Swarthmore Ave. The Brentwood Farmers Market located at 741 South Gretna Green Way runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
