(Video) Families Gather for Ovarian Cancer Expo

The median on San Vicente Boulevard was filled with booths and activities Saturday as part of the annual Lynne Cohen Foundation event "Kickin' Cancer."

The 10th annual Kickin' Cancer 5K Walk/Run, which raises money for the Lynne Cohen Foundation for Ovarian Cancer Research, also featured a Family Expo on Saturday with retailers that specialize in the active lifestyle, activities for kids and free samples from the event's food and beverage sponsors.

"At first glance it might not look like the kind of things you'd find at a health expo, but what all of these companies have in common is a commitment to fighting cancer," said Kimberly Morales, director of research and special events for the foundation.

What started 10 years ago as a small event to honor and remember one woman—Brentwood resident Lynne Cohen—has grown into a community of dedicated individuals and businesses united in the fight against women's cancers.

Foundation co-founder Amy Cohen Epstein announced the top fundraising team, which raised $23,000, and then started participants off in the 5K Walk/Run that took them down San Vicente Boulevard, through several Brentwood neighborhoods, then back to the expo where presenting sponsor Ralphs had food and water waiting at the finish line.

"People come here from all over to help the cause, but I think they also come just to have fun," Epstein said.
