New Getty Exhibit and Traffic Advisory

The Getty debuts an exhibit on British artists and the 405 Freeway surrounding the Skirball Bridge will be closed.

1. The Getty Center opens a new exhibit featuring the work of some of Britain's most celebrated artists, including Thomas Gainsborough, J. M. W. Turner and William Blake. The exhibition focuses on the innovations these artists brought to watercolor and drawing. The Getty is at 1200 Getty Center Drive.

2. The Skirball Cultural Center has brought back its widely popular Summer Drop-in Art Studio. The program features a rotating menu of inspiring projects that focus on exploring, re-imagining, and enhancing the world around us. Drop in any time during regular museum hours. The last entry is at 4:30 p.m. Museum hours are 12 p.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The museum is closed Mondays. The program is free with museum admission. General admission is $10, while seniors and full-time students pay $7. Admission for children ages 2-12 is $5 and children under the age of 2 are free. The Skirball Cultural Center is at 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd.

3. The Skirball Cultural Center is taking registrations for its Introduction to Precious Metal Clay summer course. Offered in partnership with Otis College of Art and Design, the course will teach students how to make a pair of earrings and a pendant with precious metal clay, which consists of five silver particles suspended in an organic binder. The binder makes the silver malleable as clay. The course takes place Sunday, July 24 from 9 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. Cost is $99 for non-credit. 4. The Skirball Center Drive bridge will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for three nights as part of a project to construct a a deck panel on the bridge's northern half. The southbound 405 Freeway from Burbank Boulevard to Getty Center Drive will also be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday and Tuesday, while the northbound 405 Freeway from Getty Center Drive to Ventura Boulevard will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday. Each night, ramps within the freeway closures limits will begin to close as early as 7 p.m.
