Metro Reopens Wilshire Boulevard Exit on 405

The reopening of the Wilshire Boulevard exit on the southbound 405 Freeway comes a week early.

Metro contractors finished building a new ramp one week early, and on Saturday reopened the exit from the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway to westbound Wilshire Boulevard.

"The contractor worked very quickly to reopen that connection at 8:30 this morning," Metro spokesman Dave Sotero said.

He credited the contractor, Kiewit Infrastucture West. Earlier, the company managed to cut an entire day off of a planned 55-hour series of lane closures that snarled northbound 405 traffic at Getty Center Drive.

Sotero said Metro planned to curtail construction work early Saturday night to free up Los Angeles Department of Transportation officers to work on the L.A. Marathon.

No major lane closures were planned for all day Sunday, when the 405 will be one of the few ways to transit the marathon route, Sotero said.

I noticed this Saturday morning. The cars coming off of the ramp actually paused before trying to merge into the Wilshire Blvd. west lanes. None that I saw were texting as they used to be when exiting this ramp.
