Five Things You Need to Know: June 9

Beware of the 405, take a writing seminar at the Skirball Center or sign your child up for summer basketball camp.

1.  The northbound Nos. 1, 2 and 3 lanes on the 405 Freeway will be closed at Sunset Boulevard from midnight to 5 a.m. The closures will continue through Sunday and are part of the 405/Sepulveda Pass widening project.

2. . The Skirball Cultural Center’s summer writing workshop begins today. Offered in partnership with Otis College of Art and Design, the eight-session workshop will focus on how to transform personal experiences into an essay, short story, novella, or chapters of a memoir or novel. The workshop is $385 for non-credit, $419 for certificate credit and $1,075 for one unit of college credit. To register, call the Otis College of Art and Design at 310-665-6950.

3. Open registration for the Barrington Recreation Center’s summer classes continues. Classes include tennis, arts and crafts, and basketball. To view a list of available classes or learn how to register, go to the Recreation Center’s website.

4. The Getty Museum offers a daily tour of its expansive gardens, including Robert Irwin’s Center Garden. For the free tour, meet the docent under the sycamore tree near the museum’s front entrance.
