Bridge Closures and Networking Breakfast

Construction on the Mulholland Bridge will result in six-week long closures, and the West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce hosts its monthly networking breakfast.

1. The West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce hosts its monthly networking breakfast at 7:15 a.m. at Olympic Collection. The restaurant is at 11301 W. Olympic Blvd. The cost is $15 for members with an RSVP, $25 for members without an RSVP and $30 for non-members. To RSVP, call 310-441-2900, email info@westlachamber.com or register online.

2. Get up close and personal with a single work of art at the Getty Museum Family Art Stops, a hands-on gallery experience geared for families with children ages 5 and up. The program runs Tuesday-Friday until Sept. 9.  Start times are 10:30 a.m., 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sign-up begins 30 minutes before the program at the Museum Information Desk. The Getty is at 1200 Getty Center Dr.

3. The Skirball Cultural Center is taking registrations for its Introduction to Precious Metal Clay summer course. Offered in partnership with Otis College of Art and Design, the course will teach students how to make a pair of earrings and a pendant with precious metal clay, which consists of five silver particles suspended in an organic binder. The binder makes the silver malleable as clay. The course takes place Sunday, July 24 from 9 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. Cost is $99 for non-credit. To register for this course, contact Otis College of Art and Design at 310-665-6950.

4. The eastbound lane along the Mulholland Bridge will be closed between the hours of 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. for early preparation work on the planned demolition of the bridge later this month. One lane will remain open to accommodate traffic coming from the east and west. Work crews with flags will direct the two-way traffic.

Also, construction of a retaining wall along the southbound 405 freeway near the Mulholland Bridge has begun. Workers will also widen the freeway slightly to the west to accommodate the new wall, so the southbound Skirball off-ramp will be closed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m and 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. The closures will last approximately 6 weeks.
