Brentwood Residents to Tie Ribbons on Coral Trees

Ribbons were used 30 years ago to raise awareness of the coral trees' plight.

Students of the will tie orange ribbons to each of the coral trees located on Brentwood medians on Sunday, according to an email written by Brentwood Community Council chair Nancy Freedman to neighborhood stakeholders.

The ribbons are meant to help raise awareness and money for the maintenance of the 123 coral trees, which need to be pruned at least once a year.

Sunday will mark the beginning of the "Week of the Coral Tree." The community is holding a rally at the Brentwood Gardens shopping complex courtyard on Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. to help raise donations for the maintenance of the trees.

Brentwood resident and actress Betty White will host the event.
