Frogs Hop by Brentwood Library

Children enjoy green stories, songs and puppets Wednesday.

Frogs invaded the Donald Bruce Kaufman-Brentwood Branch on Wednesday as librarian Mary Hopf entertained children with frog-themed stories, songs and a puppet show.

Hopf, a former Brentwood librarian who is now at the Pacific Palisades Branch Library, conceived of the event as part of the Summer Reading program.

“I’m here to show the kids that stories are fun and friendly—and sometimes green,” Hopf said. “The stories I’m doing today are about all kinds of frogs—fabulous frogs, funny frogs and friendly frogs.”

Hopf read the books The Wide-mouthed Frog and Froggy Gets Dressed to the kids in the packed event room at the library. After singing songs and having a puppet show, Hopf helped the kids make a frog headband to take home.

“I thought the puppet show was funny and I liked how the frog was bouncing around like crazy,” said Jasmine Ebrahimi, 8.

Jasmine said she loves to read and comes to the library often.

“I read like 300-page chapter books. When you read, it takes you into a whole new adventure,” she said.

The library will present another puppet show at 3:30 p.m. July 20. For information, call the library at 310-575-8273 or visit www.lapl.org.
