Appeal Denied For Motorist Sentenced in Injured Cyclists Case

Christopher Thomas Thompson's request for appeal was denied by the state's high court Wednesday. The motorist was sentenced to five years in prison three years ago after an incident with two cyclists in Brentwood.

The California Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal on Wednesday for a driver accused of slamming on his brakes in front of two bicyclists on Mandeville Canyon Road in Brentwood three years ago, City News Service reported.

Christopher Thomas Thompson, 61, was reportedly sentenced to five years in state prison in November 2009 and convicted of assault with a deadly weapon, battery with serious bodily injury and mayhem in connection with the July 4, 2008 crash, according to City News Service.

A January 2009 L.A. Times report stated that Thompson told police officers first to arrive on the scene that he had purposely hit his brakes in front of the cyclists to “teach them a lesson.”
