405 Closures and a Tuesday Hike

Hike Temescal Canyon, explore the Getty Museum's world-class architecture and avoid getting caught in traffic due to closures on Sunset and the 405 Freeway.

Here are five things you need to know for June 21. 

1. Discover more about Richard Meier's architecture and the design of the Getty Center site in this 45-minute tour. Meet the docent outside at the bench under the sycamore trees near the front entrance to the museum. Tours begin at 10:15 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. The Getty is at 1200 Getty Center Dr.

2. The Temescal Canyon Association will host a series of Tuesday Evening Hikes. This week, the group will hike the Temescal Loop and return for an optional dinner at the Temescal Gateway. Take the trail from Temescal Gateway Park to Rivas Canyon. Meet at 6 p.m. at the Temescal Gate parking lot. For more information, visit www.temcanyon.org.

3. Diesel bookstore will host a book group to discuss Antoine Wilson's The Interloper. The group meets at 5 p.m. Diesel is at 225 26th Street.

4. Work on the Sunset Boulevard on-ramp to the northbound 405 freeway begins today and will finish in approximately two weeks. Work hours are from  7 a.m. to 7 p.m., weather permitting.

As part of the Sunset Boulevard bridge reconstruction and water line replacement, Sunset Boulevard will remain closed at night between Church Lane and the northbound Sunset Boulevard ramps to the 405 freeway. The nightly closures will take place for approximately one week, followed by intermittent closures. Anticipated work hours and full closure times on Sunset Boulevard are from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.  The Sunset Boulevard bridge will be open during the day.

Westbound Sunset Boulevard traffic will be detoured to Sepulveda Way, to northbound Sepulveda Boulevard, to southbound Church Lane, and back to Sunset Boulevard.  Eastbound Sunset Boulevard traffic will be detoured to northbound Church Lane, to southbound Sepulveda Boulevard, to eastbound Sepulveda Way, and back to Sunset Boulevard.
