Getty Center Announces Extended Friday Hours

Launch your summer in style as the Getty Center kicks off extended Friday hours on Friday, May 24, the beginning of Memorial Day Weekend.

From May 24 through August 30, the Getty Center will stay open until 9 p.m. on Fridays as well as Saturdays, giving visitors another long summer evening to enjoy the art, gardens and view. This summer, exhibitions include Overdrive: L.A. Constructs the Future, 1940-1990 and In Focus: Ed Ruscha, two explorations of Los Angeles’ built landscape as part of Pacific Standard Time Presents: Modern Architecture in L.A. Also on view this summer will be Japan's Modern Divide: The Photographs of Hiroshi Hamaya and Kansuke Yamamoto, The Poetry of Paper and Gardens of the Renaissance.

The Restaurant will be open for dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings, and the Courtyard Coffee Cart will offer sandwiches, salads, snacks and drinks.

Parking, normally $15, is discounted to $10 after 5 p.m. The extended Friday hours create another good opportunity to take advantage of the Getty’s “Pay Once, Park Twice” program, in which you can park at both the Getty Villa and the Center on the same day for one $15 parking fee.

On May 24, the Getty kicks off its extended Friday hours with a new program of music, food and fun called Friday Flights, featuring cult-film screenings, DJs, dance lesson and tapas. 

Inspired by the exhibition Japan’s Modern Divide: The Photographs of Hiroshi Hamaya and Kansuke Yamamoto, May 24’s inaugural Friday Flights will feature the Asian dance pop and indie rock of DJ Greg Hignight, co-founder of nightlife powerhouse Tune in Tokyo. Collaborating with Hignight is hip hop artist Jason Chong, who will teach his J-pop moves to the rhythm of the latest global beats. Visitors can also sip on Japanese-inspired cocktails and get their cult classic fix with a screening of the original Godzilla.
