Get Out: Your Brentwood Weekend Itinerary

No plans this weekend? Not a problem! Patch has your Friday, Saturday and Sunday guide to the best events in Brentwood.

Support Athletics at a Local Brentwood High School

Show your city pride by supporting athletics at your favorite Brentwood high school. On Friday, varsity football team will take on Kilpatrick High School at 4 p.m. in the home stadium, while University High School will be playing an away game at 7 p.m. at Eagle Rock High School.

Not into "Friday night lights?" Be sure to check out the athletic scheduling websites for both schools (BWS here and Uni here) to stay up to date on tennis, volleyball, cross country, and other competitive events.

Remember to wear your school colors (BWS is red and blue, Uni is blue and orange), bring cash to purchase food or drinks and wear a sweater or coat as the weather becomes more chilly.

Free samples from delicious, certified California-grown food vendors? Who could say no to that?

On Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., join the many Brentwood regulars who frequent the farmer's market to stock up on quality goods, such as fresh produce, nuts, flowers, specialty items and even made-to-order crepes. Enjoy the social environment, variety of cuisine, competitive prices, and the last, lingering moments of Brentwood summer weather.

In case the sprawling, picturesque views of the Pacific Ocean and all of Los Angeles aren't enough to motivate you to check out the Getty Center, perhaps one of the films, activities, exhibitions or tours will do the job.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, at 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., there will be a 30-minute documentary screening in the museum lecture hall, recounting the story behind the "Gray Column" sculpture. The documentary, which details the creation of the massive artwork (12 feet high, 8 feet wide) created by De Wain Valentine, features interviews with the artist, curators, conservators, and scientists.

If you prefer to create art as opposed to observe art, enjoy "Getty Drawing Hour" on Sunday from 3:30 p.m.- 5:30 p.m. Artist Stas Orlovski will provide general guidance while you sketch original works throughout the museum. This activity is free of charge, but you must bring your own drawing pads and pencils. You can begin to sign up at 2:30 p.m. at the museum information desk.

Those seeking an artistic exhibition will find that Getty Center has plenty to offer this weekend. Whether it's Cuban photography, Luisa Roldán's polychrome sculptures, medieval and Renaissance European art, or British watercolors and drawings, this cultural hub certainly has something for everyone to enjoy. See the full list of exhibitions here.

A variety of tours are available (Collection Highlights, Architecture, Sculpture Discovery, Garden) at various times throughout the weekend. See here for details.

Indulge your Sweet Tooth at Yogurtland

It's no secret that Brentwood residents are committed to fitness and healthy lifestyles, but sometimes, enjoying a frosty treat over the weekend is simply necessary. Health-conscious residents in the 90049 will flip for Yogurtland, which serves up tasty, rich, and flavorful soft-serve frozen yogurt at a fraction of the calories you'd find in an ordinary pint at the supermarket.

Stop by the local neighborhood hangout and try some of their new fall flavors: blackberry lemon mint tart (gluten free, vitamin c fortified, calcium, non fat), peanut butter and jelly (gluten free, protein, calcium, low fat), and oatmeal cookies (calcium, low fat).

Once you've picked your favorite flavor(s), select from a wide variety of toppings that include assorted fresh fruits, candies, chocolates, cereals, and syrups.

You'll leave with your taste buds feeling more than satisfied, and you won't have to pay the price in the gym the next day. Everyone wins!

Yogurtland is open Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Start Planning for Halloween at Aahs!

Now that it's officially October, it is socially-acceptable to use the entire calendar month to boast some seriously creepy and gruesome Halloween decorations on the exterior of your home (how long you keep up interior decorations is entirely your decision, I don't judge).

Aahs! in neighboring Santa Monica is truly your one-stop shopping when it comes to all things Halloween, and their friendly staff can help you select the items you'll need to transform your Brentwood home into a spooky manor.

Aahs! also has a massive selection of items you'll need to prepare for Halloween, whether you're having a party, attending a party, trick or treating, or passing out candy. Spider webs, oversized inflatable decorations, lawn decorations, special effects make up and blood, costumes, party goods, signage, props, and additional themed memorabilia are just a small taste of what you'll find inside the aisles of this Halloween superstore.

Aahs! is open Friday and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
