Energy Advocate Group RePower LA to Host Westside Town Hall Thursday Night

RePower LA is a newly-formed coalition comprising Los Angeles community organizations, environmentalists, labor, small businesses and faith-based leaders.

The coalition advocates for an expanded energy efficiency program to save Angelenos money on their energy bills, reduce dependency on dirty coal and create local, career-path jobs for LA’s hardest-hit areas.

The coalition will host a Town Hall on Thurs. Nov. 3 from 6-8 p.m. at the Iman Center, 3376 Motor Ave. Los Angeles, 90034, and RePower LA is urging Westside residents to attend.

Presenters and panelists will include RePower LA Director Jessica Goodheart; Rick Solis, Venice Community Housing Corporation; Gus Carona, IBEW Local 18; Eli Lipmen, board member Palms Neighborhood Council; Kathy Seal, Sierra Club member; Oscar Hernandez, Venice YouthBuild member; and Jessica Melton, Venice YouthBuild member.

“The town halls represent the broad coalition of community members coming together who want to see real change in the way Angelenos use energy,” RePower LA organizer Kokayi Kwa Jitahidi said in a statement. “Because the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is the largest municipality-owned utility in the country, it can serve as a model bringing an energy efficiency program to scale that focuses on greening an entire city, saving customers money on their utility bills and focusing on local jobs."

Following the presentations, there will be the opportunity for questions and answers.
