Dogs Are People Too at Brentwood Whole Foods

The trendy health mart is serving up a dose of TLC for your furry companion Saturday morning.

We all know Brentwood is full of pet owners who love to take their dogs with them when they run errands.

Most people certainly can't take their Canis familiaris into a food establishment; so what do you do?

Tie Fido to a light post or roll down your car windows?

The has come up with a better idea. The store is holding a "Pet Parents" breakfast mixer Saturday from 8 to 9 a.m. to show off its new dog waiting area, "the barking lot."

Now you don't have to leave your poor pooch in the car or leashed to the trash can to salivate at the sight of sidewalk-dining patrons scarfing down salad bar fare.

I just got off the phone with Deborah Hartle, the marketing supervisor for the Brentwood Whole Foods, and got the lowdown on Saturday morning. The new "barking lot" will have hitching posts to tether your dogs to. The waiting area will also have dog beds, a water dispenser and a treat bucket. Free human treats, in the form of coffee and pastries, will be served on the patio area on San Vicente Boulevard. This is the first in hopefully a series of community events the local Whole Foods will host, Hartle said.

Did I miss something? Will there be a qualified employee to supervise the dogs or will they be unattended. Do the owners check them in and then reclaim them so that a theif can't take the dogs?
