Cafe to Donate Purchase Proceeds to Corals

Visit the Brentwood Coral Tree Cafe every Saturday in January between 5-11 p.m. and 20 percent of your purchase will be donated to the Brentwood Coral Tree Endowment Fund for maintenance of the coral trees.

Another old friend to the Brentwood coral tree has stepped up in the effort to maintain this Los Angeles landmark.

The will donate 20 percent of your order to the Coral Tree Endowment Fund each Saturday from 5-11 p.m. in January when you mention you're there to help "save the coral trees."

"It's very expensive to take care of these trees and also to clean them up," said Amber Jamal, marketing manager for all three Coral Tree Cafe locations in , and . "And it's dangerous for anybody walking by, jogging, branches will fall."

Jamal lives in Brentwood and believes that the trees are an important fixture in the community.

"So being Coral Tree Cafe (she laughed) and having been in Brentwood for the past almost 10 years, we really cherish the coral trees," Jamal told Patch. "When we found out what was happening, we wanted to make a difference in any way possible."

The cafe came up with the plan for the fundraiser and approached the Brentwood Community Council (BCC).

"It's the first time that somebody from the community has stepped up and said, you know, 'We want to get this right,' and 'How can we do it?'" said Nancy Freedman, BCC chairwoman.
