Brewmaster to Sign New Craft Beer Cans (Photos)

Chef and entrepreneur Tony Yanow has been busy this year.

This spring he gave up darts in Burbank to bring us .

But now, he's back on the other side of the river, overseeing the opening of Golden Road Brewing on San Fernando Road just north of Atwater Village.

The micro-brewery is rolling out two brews this month: Golden Road Hefeweizen and Point the Way IPA.

Groundbreakingly, they'll both be available in 16-ounce cans. You can already find them in selected Whole Foods locations, including Brentwood, Glendale, Venice and Pasadena.

Golden Road Brewmaster Jon Carpenter will be signing cans at the Brentwood Whole Foods from 11-2 p.m. on Feb. 8.

The bevs are also coming to a few retail drinking venues including Echo Park's and Culver City's City Tavern.

Sunset Beer hosted a party Friday night to celebrate the rollout, making headlines along the way.

The man behind the cans is Glassell Park photographer Nate Miller. His original photographs are integral to the cans designed by GAMUT.

The IPA can with the palm trees was shot on Laveta Terrace in Echo Park.  The Hefeweisen can image comes from the Shakespeare Bridge in the Los Feliz's Franklin Hills.

Miller says GAMUT and Golden Road wanted pictures that were "warm and hazy, that really emphasized that L.A. feel."

He says shooting he "went to all my regular spots...Once I was on foot, I took pictures of whatever felt natural."

He says he finds any "green spot inspirational" though he really likes the Silver Lake dogpark, Griffith Park and, lately, Elysian Park, which is a little scary at night though worth the climb.

When asked if he thinks Echo Park is "over," he says "no." He says instead it's in "mid-beginning with no end in sight."

Let's hope so. Meantime, there are plenty of opportunities to celebrate the cans that Miller begat.

On Jan. 28, Golden Road's brewmaster Jon Carpenter will be in Pasadena for a tasting and can-signing from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Golden Road team will also be in Venice on Jan. 29 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and in Glendale on Feb. 10 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
