Brentwood Teen Struck by Vehicle in Pacific Palisades

Sunset Boulevard east and westbound, as well as Chautauqua Boulevard to the Pacific Coast Highway, are jammed in Pacific Palisades.

A 15-year-old boy from Brentwood was struck by a vehicle Thursday afternoon in Pacific Palisades and has been transported to the hospital in critical condition, according to Los Angeles police and Palisades Patrol.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey confirmed the accident was first reported at 3:50 p.m. on Sunset Boulevard at Hartzell Street near Chautauqua Boulevard. Pali Patrol CEO Scott Wagenseller said the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Sunset and hit the youth in the #2 lane at Hartzell.

Humphrey said one ambulance transported the victim to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center with no further information available on the victim's condition.

LAPD Sgt. Susie Padilla confirmed the victim's age and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Padilla noted the driver of the vehicle stopped after striking the teenager.

LAPD has Sunset eastbound diverted onto Drummond Street and Sunset westbound diverted on to Chautauqua while an investigation is conducted.

Chautauqua northbound is also jammed as traffic is being directed eastbound on Sunset away from the village, according to Pali Patrol. Chautauqua is backed up all the way to Pacific Coast Highway.

Wagenseller said expect backup on westbound Sunset to start at Amalfi.

At the Pacific Palisades Community Council meeting Thursday night, LAPD Senior Lead Officer Michael Moore, who had just arrived from the scene of the accident, confirmed the boy is from Brentwood. He told the council the boy is in critical condition and the accident could be treated as a fatal.

"The driver was not at fault," Moore said, noting the teen crossed the street with headphones on and darted in front of the driver.
