Japanese Choir to Sing Hebrew Melodies at University Synagogue

MAKHELAT HASHACHAR (Shinonome Chorus) consists of 24-35 members selected out of seventy choirs all over Japan, which belong to Japan Christian Friends of Israel also known as BEIT SHALOM JAPAN. This unique organization was organized in 1946 by Rev. Takeji Otsuki whose spiritual revelation convinced him that there is no peace in the world without peace in Jerusalem.

In the spring of 1971 MAKHELAT HASHACHAR first performed concerts at Haifa, Tel Aviv, and Jerusalem.  Their pure voices and sincere love for Israel deeply touched the hearts of the listeners. Israeli TV and newspapers praised it as a unique chorus group.  Since then they have made ten very successful concert tours to Israel.  This choir visited the Jewish communities in the U.S. in 1987 for the first time.  This concert tour is their 8th visit to the U.S.

We ask you to welcome them with open arms and hearts on Tuesday May 17 at 7:45 pm. Admission is by a donation of any amount (suggested donation is $18 but any amount is welcome). Proceeds will benefit the URJ Japanese Tsunami Relief Fund and the University Synagogue High Holy Days Music Fund.  There will be open seating in the sanctuary.University Synagogue is located at 11960 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90049 (corner of Sunset and Saltair in Brentwood).
