Unionmade Men's Clothing Store Breezes Into the Country Mart

The popular San Francisco based boutique opens a Brentwood Country Mart store Friday.

With a long list of women’s apparel stores in Brentwood, the arrival of a new men’s outfitter is a welcome change.

Trendy Bay Area men's clothier Unionmade, which began in 2009 in San Francisco, opens in the Brentwood Country Mart on Friday.

Focusing on American brands with history–Levi’s, Patagonia, Pendleton–Unionmade’s owner Todd Barket aims to “balance the assortment with contemporary lines that we find, edit the lines we buy, and mix it.”

“It's essential pieces that every guy needs presented in a modern warm environment,” he explains.

One of those guys who tuned to Unionmade for a climate-appropriate wardrobe is Jim Rosenfield, the owner of the Brentwood Country Mart.

As a loyal customer, Rosenfield suggested Barket consider the Brentwood Country Mart as the location for the second store.

“It’s simply the best mixed branded casual men’s clothing store in the country. The staff is super friendly, the store looks amazing, and the quality is unsurpassed,” Rosenfield told Patch.

“All of this makes for a great experience that men anywhere would feel lucky to have.  The customers in Brentwood will, I’m sure, feel very lucky soon,” Rosenfield said.

While Rosenfield played a role in the decision to ultimately settle in the Brentwood Country Mart, the city was already high on Barket’s radar.

“Brentwood was of particular interest to us because we feel like the neighborhood could use a men's store and I think the guys in Brentwood will appreciate what we do. It's understandable, straightforward, and all about the product,” Barket added.

One factor to consider when shopping is pricing, which Barket is “very aware” of when selecting merchandise to sell in the store.

“It’s tiered,” he explained. “I want everyone to participate and be able to find something. We have $7 socks to $600 shoes by Alden,” Barket said.

“It’s awesome that a new shop is coming to town, I’ve heard Unionmade has a ton of cool options for guys to choose from,” J.J. Meyers, a longtime Brentwood resident, told Patch.

“The location is convenient for me, which makes the store more appealing,” he added.

Los Angeles based fashion expert and writer Zack Tanck, who grew up on the Westside frequenting shops in Brentwood, thinks the store is a perfect addition to the existing fashion climate of the 90049.

“Unionmade will feel right at home in the Brentwood Country Mart. Everything about the store and its stylish point of view, from classic canvas sneakers to smart linen button downs, fits right in with Brentwood's breezy chic crowd."
