More Than $4,000 Raised For Brentwood's Coral Trees

Whole Foods raises funds toward Brentwood's Coral Tree Endowment Fund.

Whole Foods Market in Brentwood raised approximately $4,382.95 for the community's coral trees during the support day on Jan. 30.

The store donated five percent of net sales to Brentwood Community Council's coral tree endowment fund to ensure continuing care to the area's iconic trees that line San Vicente Boulevard. There are approximately 130 historic coral trees on the boulevard medians.

"This is great," said Nancy Freedman, president of the Brentwood Community Council, at its Tuesday night meeting. She said the funds go toward the annual maintenance for the trees. Council members have been researching ways to care for the oldest, and more vulnerable, of the coral trees.

At Tuesday night's meeting Joaquin Maceas, field deputy for City Councilman Bill Rosendahl, said "hopefully next week" his office could have some good news about the coral trees.

"We're seeing what we can do to assist the foundation you've set up," he said.
