Kenter Canyon Brownie Troop Spruces Area Near Brentwood Post Office

Kenter Canyon Elementary Brownie Troop 12755 landscaped and refurbished the entryway to the Brentwood Post Office on Sunday, May 19.

The girls removed 17 bags of refuse, planted 60 new plants, spread 20 bags of mulch and swept and removed dead leaves form the sidewalk along Barrington Avenue in front of the building. The troop has been preparing for the project since January, when they dedicated a portion of their annual cookie sale profits to cleaning up the post office and re-landscaping the area.

After selling more than 3,000 boxes of cookies, the troop asked Brentwood-based certified arborist Lisa Smith, who consults on the care of Brentwood's Coral Trees, to volunteer her time with a landscape plan. Smith also provided a lesson on planting and the wholesale pricing on plants.

The Brownies were able to complete the entire project for less than $1,000 and they will receive their community service badge at the Brentwood Community Council meeting on June 4, where former Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl will present a custom badge the girls designed themselves.
