Glut of Food Trucks Irking Some Brentwood Residents

Residents near Sunset Boulevard and Kenter Avenue in Brentwood say there are way too many food trucks regularly stationed near their homes.

Food truck operators parking along Sunset Boulevard near Kenter Avenue in Brentwood have been put on notice, based on several concerns raised by residents at the July 2 community council meeting.

"It's disgusting," said nearby resident Ron Papell, who attending the meeting with several neighbors. "It's business being dealt on the street en masse."

The Kenter/Sunset neighbors said they see at least four food trucks a day along the cross street with Sunset as well as the first two blocks of Kenter Avenue north of Sunset. Neighbors told the community council the trucks are so wide they are pulling up to the limit line, obscuring the view out of driveways and even blocking some driveways.

"It's an enormous public safety hazard," Papell added, noting the customers of the food trucks are sitting on front walls and fences while eating their fare, and then leaving the wrappers and discarded food on the front lawns.

The neighbors also said they are concerned about their property values due to the commerce brought to their street.

"We're not commercial. We're residential," another Kenter Avenue resident said.

Newly-installed City Councilman Mike Bonin responded to the concerns at the community council meeting. It was his first time hearing about it.

"There's a couple on my staff familiar with this issue," he said. "We've a worse issue of this on Abbot Kinney [Boulevard], killing merchant-friendly business."

What are your thoughts about the food trucks operating in Brentwood?
